Spydro VS GoFish Cam
In this article, I will compare two fishing cameras. Spydro, which is the latest fishing camera on market vs GoFish Cam, which is the most popular fishing camera. So Spydro vs GoFish Cam… who is a better fishing camera? Keep reading to find out.
If you are not familiar with the Spydro camera yet, you can read our review on it here.
I will begin by saying that both cameras, the Spydro, and the GoFish Cam, are great fishing cameras. However, even though both of them have great features, Spydro has some unique features, which for you, as an angler can be very important. So in this post, I will introduce you with these two great fishing cameras on the market and their great features.
Why a fishing camera from the first place?
The world of fishing is having a serious improvement in the last couple of years. With the release of fishing drones and fishing cameras, we are able to see great catches by regular anglers while a few years ago, these types of catches, could only be seen (and done) by highly experienced anglers.
While fishing drones can bring your lures and baits to places you couldn’t reach out before, fishing cameras can improve our fishing skills and let you learn many new things you couldn’t know before. Or should I say, you could learn it, but only in the hard and long way.
Till today, on several forums on the internet, I can see so many times people asking questions on how to operate a specific lure using their fishing rod. Operating a fishing lure correctly is highly important if you want to increase your odds against the fish.
A few years ago, before the days of the GoPro (and all the other action cameras), people answered these questions by trying to explain in words how to operate the fishing rod, which that allows the lure to swim in the best way possible. You could see words like “twitches” “jerks” and other nasty words that for a beginner angler couldn’t help much.
As years went by, people went fishing with an action camera attached to their forehead or their chest, filming the whole fight with the fish. While that is a great improvement, you could only see how to operate the rod. But, you couldn’t see how that affects the lure under the water. Moreover, you couldn’t know if that really triggered out the fish or not.
The Rise of fishing cameras
Having that said, fishing cameras introduce us to the “new” world of fishing. In general, a fishing camera is a waterproof camera that can film everything underwater. You attach it to your mainline and cast it along with your bait (or lure).
A good fishing camera can show you exactly what happened. It can show you if the way you operated your lure was attractive enough or not. If you are fishing for carps, it can show you if the bait is interesting enough or not and so on. But that is not all, there is much more with fishing cameras. So, with fishing cameras, you can improve your fishing skills a lot.
A fishing camera is just a camera that can films underwater, Right?
If you think that a fishing camera is basically a camera that has a waterproof housing, and a hydrodynamic shape (in order to move smoothly in the water), well my friend, you are completely wrong.
Oh, sorry! You are not that wrong. Some fishing cameras are actually like that. However, Spydro and GoFish Cam are completely not. They both have much more than that, and they help you learn better and faster in the underwater world.
So, after this long introduction, it’s about time to dive into the comparison of the Spydro vs GoFish Cam.
Spydro vs GoFish Cam – What will I compare?
As said, both cameras are not just a waterproof camera that you can attach to the mainline. They have great features.
Let’s start with the features that both cameras have.
Mobile App
Having a mobile app is very important. Actually, the mobile app is the most important feature I consider a fishing camera.
Now, don’t you worry, I don’t mean that you will be fishing using your smartphone. Even me, when I go out fishing, I have my phone with me, but I do not use it as long as I fish. And even here you are not expected to fish using your smartphone.

So why the mobile app is such an important feature?
Having a mobile app is very important since it’s your door to the underwater world without the need to connect your camera to the computer. But that is not the only reason. With the mobile App, you can view all of the videos that your camera took. You can see all the water details that the sensors collected for you, like date, time, depth, water salinity, temperature, GPS position, speed (relevant when trolling) and more. Having a good mobile app means that it will combine all the important details and present it to you in a way that you can learn how to improve your fishing skills. For example, you can learn that in a certain place, depth and temperature your odds to catch a certain fish are better.
In addition, the mobile app allows you to control and configure the camera before you fish with it. Configurations like controlling the lights, video quality, video modes, sensitivity, and more.
Spydro vs GoFish Cam – Mobile App Summary
When I compared the mobile app of Spydro vs GoFish Cam, they are both great, intuitive and friendly. However, since Spydro collects more data, that makes Spydro’s app more informative, hence, it can teach you more about the underwater world, which that improving your skills.
Spydro wins in this round.
Float
Both the Spydro and the GoFish Cam comes with a floater. The fishing camera with its’ floater allows you to replace your normal float, and fish like you normally do when float fishing. And since the camera floats over the water, that means you have a WiFi connection between your phone and the camera. This means you can live stream while surfaced – as long as you are in its’ range.

Spydro vs GoFish Cam – Float
Both cameras have great floaters, and I do not find any specific float that it is better than the other. Or which allows the camera to performs better.
A tie in this round.
Night Vision
Night vision is another great feature in these 2 fishing cameras. I don’t think that there is much to explain in here except that Spydro has 2 powerful led lights and GoFish Cam has one green led light.
Spydro VS GoFish Cam – Night Vision

While Spydro has 2 led lights, it illuminates the recorded scene and enhances darker footage. In addition, Spydro has a light sensor that turns the LEDs on and off automatically according to the scene conditions. Moreover, you can set the light to work without the use of the sensor, allowing you to use the Spydro as a flashlight. With GoFish Cam, on the other hand, you will need to turn the light on and off manually before fishing with it.
So, on this round Spydro, no doubt wins again.
Camera Quality
Camera quality means video modes, FOV, FPS, light correction, stability, color correction, and contrast.
- Video modes – Both Spydro and GoFish Cam support 1080p and 720p.
- FOV – Spydro has 130 degrees. Regarding GoFish Cam, I didn’t find any info about that.
- FPS – Spydro supports 30FPS in 1080p (Full HD) and 30/60FPS in 720p (HD). GoFish Cam supports 30/60FPS in 1080p, and 60FPS in 720p. In short GoFish Cam supports more FPS than Spydro. However, I would like to mention something important. More FPS means a bigger file size. So, don’t use 60FPS if you don’t actually need it since eventually, you will have fewer videos on your memory card.
- Light correction – Spydro has a better light correction. Watch the video at the end of this section to see the comparison.
- Stability – Spydro camera outputs a better and stable image over GoFish Cam. You can see for yourself the stability test I added as well.
- Color correction – Also here Spydro performs better than GoFish Cam. Watch for yourself in the video.
- Contrast – Spydro camera has better contrast than GoFish Cam.
Regarding all the things I have just mentioned, you can now see a video comparison between the 2 cameras.
Spydro VS GoFish Cam – Camera Quality
After comparing several aspects of both the cameras, I can say that on this round, Spydro wins.
You can also watch the stability comparison between the two cameras and understand the reason I said Spydro has better image stability.
Fishing Camera Charger
Spydro comes with a special magnetic charger, while GoFish Cam comes with a regular USB charger.
Spydro has a magnetic charger, which on the contrary to all other fishing cameras, their camera has no buttons at all. It cannot be opened or disassemble. So, in order to keep the camera waterproofed, Spydro comes with a magnetic charger. Just place it on Spydro and it will get charged right away.
Spydro VS GoFish Cam – Fishing Camera Charger
Spydro has a great charger, which makes it very easy to charge. You don’t need to open the camera in order to connect it.
So, on this round, Spydro wins.
Spydro VS GoFish Cam – Charging Time
The charging time for Spydro is 3.5 hours, while GoFish Cam is 1.5 hours.
GoFish Cam wins on this round.
Spydro VS GoFish Cam – Battery
Spydro has a Lipo battery, while GoFish Cam has a Li-ion battery. Lipo batteries are better than Li-ion. Lipos are lightweight and have improved safety. However, Lipo batteries are more expensive (in about 30%). Therefore, most companies are using Li-ion batteries (to save themselves the final cost).
On this round, Spydro wins with a better battery
Spydro VS GoFish Cam – Battery Life
In this round, there is a tie since both cameras have almost 4 hours of battery life.
Spydro VS GoFish Cam – Memory Card
Spydro comes in 2 flavors, 16GB and 32GB, while GoFish Cam can store MicroSD cards up to 64GB.
So, GoFish Cam wins on this round as well.
However, since Spydro is a smart fishing camera, having a 32GB with Spydro will give you more relevant videos than the 64GB of GoFish Cam. Don’t worry, I will explain it in the unique features section.
Spydro VS GoFish Cam – Depth
This round is a tie again since both cameras can go deep up to 150 meters.
Spydro VS GoFish Cam – Waterproof
In this section, I will explain how vulnerable each camera is for water. Wait, I know what you think, and I will say that upfront. Both cameras are 100% waterproof. Afterall they are underwater cameras. But, since the way Spydro was designed and built, I realized that there is another parameter that can be compared between these two cameras. Well, as you know, Spydro was designed to be waterproof – marine-grade by design. So, that means you cannot open it. You cannot access the battery and you can’t access the SD card. Some will say it’s good while some will say it’s not. But one thing is for sure. Water cannot get inside the camera. However, GoFish allows you to open it and close it whenever it is needed. For example to charge it, and to get your SD Card. Each approach has its advantages and disadvantages.
But if by mistake you will forget to close the GoFish Cam properly before use, well my friend, this is the end of the story for the GoFish Cam. And I heard that it happened already to someone.
So, since Spydro is completely sealed, Spydro protects itself better against water. So Spydro wins in this round as well.
Spydro VS GoFish Cam – Price Wise
The price tag of the Spydro is 239$ which includes the microSD card and a free express worldwide shipping. The GoFish Cam will cost you 150$ with free shipping within the US only. Worldwide shipping will cost you an extra of 30$. Also, keep in mind that GoFish Cam does not arrive with a microSD card and you will need to purchase that separately. A normal one, like SanDisk, will cost you around 10$. So, the final price of the GoFish Cam will be around 160$-190$ depends where you live in the world.
So, in this round, the GoFish cam wins at a cheaper price than the Spydro.
That’s it for the comparison, but hold on, there is more.
Unique Features of Spydro Fishing Camera
Well, as said before, Spydro has some unique features that nor GoFish Cam and nor other fishing cameras currently have.
What’s so amazing about Spydro is that, based on environmental conditions, Spydro will make a decision on its own in order to provide you with important information regarding your fishing.
For example, we already mentioned the night vision feature that is being turned on and off automatically based on the light condition.
So, let me tell you what so unique about Spydro.
Spydro – Fishing Log
One of the most important features the Spydro has is the fishing log. The importance of the fishing log exists thanks to other unique features the Spydro has, like the sensors and the bite detector, which I will talk about them in the following sections.
The fishing log, will summarize for you all the important events that happened during fishing. That means all the catches and attacks on your bait. On every event, you can know the date, time, speed, water details and the location. These are highly important details which are impossible to remember or log manually by yourself.

The fishing log is such a powerful tool, that it will increase your catches by hundreds of percents. Knowing all the details about a catch will teach you more than you can possibly learn from anyone or even from the internet.
All the other features I will be talking about from now on, are features that the fishing log is processing in order to properly do all the work for you.
Spydro – Bite Detector
The bite detector lives up to its name, is a group of sensors that detect when a fish bites your bait. Whenever a fish bites your bait, Spydro saves your video for you, 15 seconds before the bite happened, so when you finished your fishing and takes your camera back, you are left with only relevant videos showing all the bites that occurred. So, no more having hours of videos with non-relevant videos. No more spending hours in front of your computer in order to decide which video to delete. The bite detector will save you a lot of time and a lot of free space on your memory card.
Basically, since 32GB can hold 1.5 hours of high-quality video, so even if a camera can work almost 4 hours on each battery cycle, that means that if something important happened after, let’s say 2 hours, you won’t be able to know it since your memory card is full. But with Spydro, since it only records whenever there is a bite, that promise you that your memory card won’t be full after 4 hours of work.
Spydro – Built-in GPS
Everyone knows what is a GPS, right? And since Spydro wants to provide you with the location of every single catch that you had, and show you the route that you had with your boat, for that Spydro is using a GPS.
You caught a great fish – Do you want to return to the exact place next year? With Spydro it is not a problem.
Spydro – Environmental Sensors
One of the main things that make Spydro smart and powerful is its sensors. Spydro is using several sensors in the water to collect its salinity, temperature and trolling speed.
Salinity – Not too many anglers know the importance of the water’s salinity for fish. There are some fish who lives on a specific salinity level, and for you as an angler, you have no way to measure it. Spydro, on the other hand, will do it for you.
Temperature – Spydro will measure the water temperature all the time, so you can see along your entire route what was the temperature that triggered the fish to attack.
Trolling Speed – Experienced angler knows that different fish attacks on different trolling speeds. That is exactly the reason why Spydro records on each catch what was your trolling speed. So no more guessing what was your exact trolling speed for Tuna or Barracuda.
Spydro – Energy Saver
Last import feature that I would like to talk about is the water sensor.
The water sensor simply detects when the camera is in the water and when it is out of the water. The water sensor allows Spydro to decide when to be turned on and off.
Since Spydro does not have any buttons on it, entering the water simply turns on the camera, and once Spydro detects that it is out of the water it is turned off after 3 minutes. This manages and saves your battery life in the best way. So you can’t forget the camera on and go out fishing without enough battery.
Spydro – Accessories
Well, the last thing which empowers the Spydro fishing camera is the ability to be used not only on your fishing line. Spydro can be mounted on your boat, on a selfie stick and even on your spearfishing gun. As I said in my latest review on the Spydro – It seems they think about everything for us in this camera.

Spydro VS GoFish Cam – What do other people think?
Prior to writing this article, I started a poll on our Facebook page, asking our readers what they think about Spydro and GoFish Cam, and we also asked which camera they prefer.
What do you think people chose?

68% of the calls were on Spydro’s favor. So, as for the final round, Spydro wins as well
Spydro VS GoFish Cam – The Results
On this Spydro vs GoFish Cam comparison, it isn’t that hard to say that Spydro is a much better fishing camera than the GoFish Cam. It seems that Spydro thought about everything on their camera for you. After all, you need to remember that the Spydro is a smart fishing camera, while the GoFish Cam is a “regular” fishing camera.
With Spydro’s unique features like a fishing log, special sensors, smart battery saver and many other great features, no doubt it was an easy call for Spydro.
However, GoFish Cam is a good fishing camera, which gave Spydro a fair fight in this comparison. And if you, for some reason, didn’t like the Spydro, go with GoFish Cam, you won’t be disappointed. Overall, GoFish Cam is still the most popular fishing camera.
But, if I was you, I wouldn’t think twice and get myself the Spydro camera and have those extra “smart” features, which other fishing cameras out there do not have.
Spydro is a fresh new player in town, and I can definitely say that Spydro changed the rules by raising the expectations of a fishing camera. No other fishing cameras like Spydro is currently available in the market. And choosing Spydro will be your best fishing choice and a great value for your money.

So, what you think about Spydro and GoFish Cam. Which fishing camera do you prefer? Did I change your mind by reading this article? Let me know your thoughts.
